William Barnes

William Joshua Barnes was born 1893 in Wickmere.

Richard Cletheroe

Private Arthur William Richard Cletheroe was born in Bodham on 10th March 1896. He served in the 5th Battalion of the Norfolk Regiment and was killed in action at the Second Battle of Gaza in Palestine on 19th April 1917 aged 21 years. He is buried at Gaza Military Cemetery.

George Cooper

Gunner George Robert Cooper was born on 16th May 1891 in Baconsthorpe. He served in the Royal Garrison Artillery and died of pulmonary tuberculosis in Shornecliff Military Hospital on 22nd March 1917 aged 25 years. He is buried in the church yard at St. Mary’s Church, Baconsthorpe.

Fred Dew

Private Frederick Benjamin Dew was born in Baconsthorpe in 1893. He served in the 2nd Battalion of the Norfolk Regiment and was killed in action in Mesopotamia on 26th March 1916 aged 23 years. There is no known grave for Fred. He is commemorated on the Basra Memorial, Iraq.

Horace Dew

Corporal Horace E Dew was born in Baconsthorpe. He served in the 7th Battalion of the Norfolk Regiment and died as a result of wounds sustained during battle in France & Flanders on 30th May 1916. He is buried in Lapugnoy Military Cemetry, Pas de Calais, France.

William Jarvis

Private William Thomas Jarvis was born in Baconsthorpe. He served in the 7th Battalion of the Norfolk Regiment and died of wounds sustained in France & Flanders. He is buried at Duisans British Cemetry, Etrun, Pas de Calais, France.

Robert Jermy

Rifleman Robert Jermy was born in Blofield and lived in Baconsthorpe. He served in the 9th Battalion of the London Regiment. He was killed in action on 4th July 1918. He is buried in Bavelincourt Communal Cemetery, Somme, France.

Fred Knowles

Private Fredrick John Knowles was born in Hanworth and lived in Baconsthorpe. He served in the 2nd Battalion of the Norfolk Regiment and died as a result of wounds sustained in Mesopotamia on 22nd April 1916. He is buried in Amara War Cemetery, Iraq.

Henry Smith

Private Henry John Smith was born in Norwich and lived in Baconsthorpe. He served in the 2nd Battalion of the Duke of Cambridge’s Own. He was killed in action in France & Flnders on 1st August 1917. There is no known grave for Henry. He is commemorated on the Ypres Memorial, Leper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.

Frank Thursby

Private Earl Francis Frank Thursby was born in 1896. He served in the 2nd Battalion of the Border Regiment and the Norfolk Regiment. He was killed in action in France & Flanders on 4th October 1917 aged 21 years. There is no known grave for Frank. He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.

1939-194

Geoffrey Smith

Ordinary Seaman Geoffrey Donald Grout served on H.M.S. Forfar, Royal Navy. He died, aged 21 years, aboard H.M.S. Forfar when she as sunk by a torpedo on 2nd December 1940. There is no known grave for Geoffrey. He is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial, Kent.

Leslie Smith

Corporal Leslie Frederick Smith served in the 1st Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry. He died on 30th November 1944. He is buried at Forli War Cemetery, Italy.
